Markus’s Place-dawn

Cut to

Joseph is sitting at his chair reading. Markus walks toward Joseph from the kitchen and puts the coffee on the table. Markus sits on the green chair across from him.

Markus

I believe sir; you have not slept or have eaten for a week! You look like a mess! (Troubled)

Joseph

I know, but everything he has written is so amazing. I think I found him! All the words in how he described his life are so sad. I figured it out; he was not here just for me. He is here for other outcasts for other people not to feel so alone. You wouldn’t believe the life he had because of his face. Gypsies took him. He helped a queen make torture chambers and was than finally shown kindness by a young girl who helped him escape from the torture of the gypsies and brought him to The Paris Opera House! There he fell in love with a girl who couldn’t love him back. He haunted the opera house and helped her become famous. He threatens her with her lover’s life. If she wouldn’t love him back, he was going to end her lover’s life. So she gave in, but it was too much kindness for him to take in, so he let the couple go. That’s where his journals stop, there’s nothing more! How could he bring these journals with him and not end them? There’s nothing more, Markus, but there has t be. There just has to be! (Shocked)

Markus

May I help you read through the rest?

Joseph hands him some of the journals and they start to read.

Joseph

I have an idea, if you like it. I will tell you when we find out more.

Markus

Sure thing!

Joseph

Thank you for your help, kind friend. This means the world to me.

They both continue to read.

Scene 11

Waterfront Park-day

Fade In

Markus and Joseph are at the Park for the grand opening of ”Phantom Peak.” Joseph is in front of the sign with a black ribbon in front and Markus is standing beside him. There are thousands of people off all ages anticipating the début of the new park. Erik is behind a tree watching and no one can see him.

Joseph

This is the beginning of Phantom Peak. Thanks to Markus Peak who it was partially named after, I have found the man I have been searching for. He saved me many years ago. His name is Erik and although we don’t know much about him, we know his story. Just like me, I know there are others out there who feel like they are outcasts and that no one understands them. Erik has saved my life and because of his deed, I want to help him continue to save others like me. Through his story, his music and voice, he is and always will be there for those who believe. We all need someone who we can relate to even if people don’t believe that they existed and that they are just a tale. Erik has suffered so much pain because of a half ugly face and I know that he would be the only one who could ever understand me because of his desire. Erik is the Phantom and The Phantom Peak is for all those outcasts who need Erik’s story. Thank you for coming to the opening of Phantom Peak. (Thrilled)

Joseph cuts the black ribbon and the crowd cheer. While they have a small party Markus walks up to Joseph.

Markus

I am so proud of you and that you would give your own money to this place for others. Phantom Peak will be here till eternity. It will be here for all the lost souls out there. May I ask you though if you were disappointed that we couldn’t find more about him? (Wonders)

Joseph

No. We found him, that’s all that matters. We found him, my angel of darkness and the angel for everyone. (Happy)

They both hug each other.

Scene 12

Waterfront day

Narrator

Phantom Peak became an attraction to Paris. Many people hitch hiked and traveled far just so they can find a place to belong. Many people came and went, but one day’s years later, Joseph got what he dreamed of. A young girl finally believed in the tale of the Phantom, just as much as he did. Even though to some, it was just a tale.

Scene 13

Waterfront

Two fat guys laugh and trip as they walk towards the park. 

They walk up to the sign “Phantom Peak” 

They look up towards the sign.

Scene 14

Waterfront Park-night

The two men are staring at the sign and laughing. 

Mark turns to Kurdy and

 laughs.

KURDY

Hey dude, you’re drunk.

MARK

I know and I wonder if Erik ever got drunk? They say he was so ugly that he looked like a corpse, he must have.

Kurdy looks at Mark and laughs.

KURDY

I bet you anything that he has never been with a woman either. (Laughs)

Medium Shot of Louise lying on bench.

Louise Chambers is an 18-year-old girl who has long dark and curly hair with blue eyes. 

As Louise is sitting on the bench she is staring

 up at the stars.

LOUISE

Are you there, Lord? I pray to you with all my heart that The Phantom will save me from this cruel and forgetful world.  Please have him save me, so we can share our pain together. Amen. (Whispers)

Louise starts to knell as she

 cries.

Scene 15

Waterfront Park-night

Mark and Kurdy Stills, both brothers notice Louise lying on the bench. 

C.U Camera shot in their P.O.V

Kurdy punches Mark in the shoulder. 

KURDY

Let’s go have some fun!

Kurdy and Mark walk towards Louise. 

They throw their bottle in the trash.

MARK

So girl, where is our money? (Sarcastically)

Louise looks up at Mark.

LOUISE

What money are you replying to? (In fear)

KURDY

Don’t you know you have to pay to sleep here? I mean the Phantom isn’t here, so we thought it would be the honest thing to do and collect it for him.

LOUISE

What? Erik would never ask me for money if he were here. Besides the Park doesn’t belong to you anyway! (Sarcastically) So why should I give you any money? Besides what would make you think I had money; I’m a homeless teen that walks around here all day and sleeps here at night.

KURDY

Well if you don’t have money, I know another way you can pay us. (Flirt)

Kurdy walks towards Louise as though he is about to kiss her.

 As Louise notices what the two men are thinking of, she puts her left hand on his chest while she starts to unbutton her jacket with her

 right hand. As she is unbuttoning her jacket she speaks.

LOUISE

Well since you put it that way, I have been feeling a little lonely.

(Seduction look and

 voice)

Louise moves backwards as Kurdy and Mark smile at each other. They both wink at each other and hide behind the bushes.  As they are both taking off their shirts they both look beside the bush and see nothing. Than they see each other.  The brothers both put their shirts back on and start walking in anger.

KURDY

Where is that weird girl! How dare she make fools of us!!! (Anger)

MARK

Man, I need to get layed! I thought you two were done. Am I going to get lucky tonight?

Kurdy starts to look down at the floor.  

MARK

Hello? Are you listening to me at all?? Hello. (Sarcastically)

Mark is waving his hands in front of Kurdy’s face at the same time

KURDY

Yes, I am. Look at

 this.

Kurdy looks down and picks up a hundred dollar bill.

MARK

Oh, my. Boy, we are going to get lucky! We can buy our own ladies tonight, drinks and a room. I will be getting layed, thank goodness!!

 (Excited)

Kurdy smiles at his brother. He than leans on his left shoulder.

KURDY

That is why you’re my brother, we both think alike. Let’s leave her and get out of this joint. She deserves it!

 (Anger)

Kurdy and Mark both start humming as they Exit the scene.

Scene 16

Waterfront Park-dawn

Louise looks beside the bush. (Frightened) (Louise’s view) 

LOUISE

Thank God, they are gone. I had no idea what to do. I can finally go and get some rest. (Relieved)

Louise wipes off her forehead. Louise starts to walk towards her bench. As she is walking she stops as she notices some kinds of a shinning light. Louise bends down in curiosity.

LOUISE

O my God, what is this? Can this be the mask?

The white mask that belongs to the Phantom?

Louise picks up the mask and holds it to the sky.  

In shock, Louise drops the mask to the ground. 

LOUISE

It is the mask that belongs to my angel of darkness. The legend, the Phantom Peak is named after.

I remember {Flashback} (EXT. Heritage house-day) a child who is tall with brown hair and blue eyes walks down the staircase with her hands on the railings. The father, a tall and skinny man with no hair and glasses hugs the daughter.

FATHER

My beautiful daughter, I love you.  I must go and fight, so you and mommy will be safe. I will be back, I promise. Mom is sad, (SFX: Crying noise) so I hope you’ll be strong and give her hugs and kisses. I hope you will look out for her as she has with you. I will be home soon, but I must go. I love you my dear, sweet angel. I will always love you.

The father gets up and walks towards the door. He opens the door as he smiles at his daughter. He blows a kiss and turns around. The father goes out of the door and closes it behind him. The girl puts her hands over her ears as she is crying. (SFX: Sound of engine) Young Louise walks up the staircase as she is drying her eyes. She sees her mother crying on the bed. Young Louise walks towards her mother and kneels down beside the bed. She puts her arm around her mother. 

YOUNG LOUISE

Everything will be all right, mommy. I love you and daddy will be home soon.

 He promised. I love you; everything is going to be o.k.

 {Flash back over} C.U shot of Louise on bench.

LOUISE

My father was wrong though. Everything wasn’t o.k. My father never came back from the war and my mother went insane because he didn’t return. Social Services wanted me to go to a foster home, but I ran away, far away. I heard about how my mother died. There was a report on the news and then I found Phantom Peak, so I made it my home. The story of the Phantom touched my heart and soul; for I knew I wasn’t alone. Since I have been here, no one has found me and this is my home.  My home is with the love of my life, Erik who lived through so much pain that he would have to understand mine. He is the only one who understands me and I will always love him, forever. Even though he is only here with me in my heart. 

(Note: Louise is talking over the vision, slowly.)

 Louise bends down and picks up the mask then kisses it. Louise hides the mask under her cloak.  Louise walks over to the bench, lays on it and then cries herself to sleep. 

Scene 17

 Waterfront park-daytime

Jessica Smith, a 17 year old with dark brown hair and blue eyes enters the scene. Jessica walks towards Louise with a plate of food in one hand and bottled water in the other. 

JESSICA

Wake up sleepy head.

 Here’s some food for you. It’s not as good of a meal as it usually is, but it’s all I could get before my mother noticed me this morning.

Louise woke up and rubbed her eyes.

LOUISE

Thank you my dear friend, you are all I

 have other than the Phantom. I had such an awful night. You wouldn’t believe it.

JESSICA

What happened? (Curious)

LOUISE

Two men tried to rape me! (Tears)

JESSICA

Oh, Louise. Did they hurt you? Are you all right?

LOUISE

No, they were distracted.

JESSICA

Thank goodness. By who or what? (Concern)

LOUISE

I don’t know, but I believe it was Erik.

JESSICA

The Phantom? (In Shock)

LOUISE

I think so. Look what I found after those men left me.

Louise held up the white mask.

JESSICA

That’s the mask that belongs to Erik. The mask his mother made to cover up his half ugly face or so the legend says. How did it get here?  Do you believe that it belongs to your angel of

 darkness??

LOUISE

I do. I believe it’s what I need to get by everyday. The love I have been searching for.

Jessica hugs Louise.
